Add Products
Create and price the products patients can browse and buy in your store.
This page shows you how to add the products patients can buy in your store. You do this before you go live. You need to be a Client Admin.
Your products are on the Products page. You build and price them. Staff can only look at them, not change them.
Before you start
Have these ready:
A product photo. It must be JPG, PNG, or WEBP, under 10MB. A square photo, at least 1200×1200 px, works best. Put no words on the photo.
The name and short description patients will see.
Your price. For a prescription product, check the medication cost first (see below).
Any intake forms or lab tests this product needs.
Who does what: You set this up. Staff can only view products, not change them. To see what a medication costs you, your OnlyScripts pharmacy must be connected first. OnlyScripts is the pharmacy service that fills and ships medications. See Pair Medications.
Time: About 10 to 15 minutes per product of your own time. If you still need to connect OnlyScripts to see medication costs, do that first.
Two ways to add a product
There are two ways to get a product on your Products page.
- Adopt a network product. Your provider network (the licensed doctors who review orders and prescribe) can assign products to you. These already show on your Products page. You open one and set your own price, photo, and description.
- Create your own product. If your arrangement allows it, you can build a product your brand owns. You start it from the create button.
How to set your price
The price you set is the full amount the patient pays. It must cover three things: the medication, shipping, and your profit.
Important — check the medication cost before you set a price. You set your price on the Products page. But you see what the medication costs you on the Formulary page (your medication menu). Look there first. If you guess, you can lose money on every sale.
Where to see the medication cost: Open the Formulary page from the left menu. The price columns show what each medication costs you. The Formulary page only appears after your OnlyScripts pharmacy is connected — here's how to check: look in the left menu. If you do not see Formulary, it is not connected yet. See Pair Medications to connect it.
A worked example. Say the medication costs you $200. You want $130 profit. Shipping is $20. You add them up and charge $350.
| What | Amount |
|---|---|
| Medication (from the Formulary page) | $200 |
| Shipping | $20 |
| Your profit | $130 |
| Price the patient pays | $350 |
Payment and platform fees also come out of your profit. Leave room for them.
Add a product, step by step
Open the Products page
In the left menu, click Products. You land on the Products page. You see your product list. Products your network assigned to you already show as rows.
Pick your source
To sell a product your network assigned, find its row and open it. To build your own, click the create button at the top right. A dialog opens named What would you like to create?. Click the Product card.
Fill in what patients see
You are now on the Overview tab. Type the Display name and the Display description. Drag your photo into the image box. Pick one or more Categories. Patients see this text and picture in your store.
Set the price
Type your price in the Price field. Use the number you worked out above. Do not guess.
Set the requirements
Decide what the patient must do to buy. Use Requires labs and Approved lab options for lab tests. Use Requires sync if the patient must have a live video visit (a live video appointment with a provider). Use the Forms tab to attach intake forms. Use Note for provider network to leave a note for the doctors who review the order.
Turn it on
Turn on the Active toggle. Then turn on Show on storefront so patients can find it. Show on storefront stays locked until Active is on.
Test the checkout
Buy the product with a test patient account. Check that payment, forms, and the next steps all work. This is the only way to be sure patients see what you expect.
Heads up — pharmacies do not ship to PO boxes. If a patient enters a PO box address, the order stalls with no error message. When you test, use a real street address. Tell your patients to use a street address too.
Heads up — product edits change live checkout right away. After you change the price, photo, requirements, or forms, test the checkout again.
Choose when the patient pays
A patient can start buying in three ways. The difference is when they pay. First, one word: the intake is the health questions and consent forms a patient fills in when they buy.
| Flow | The patient starts by | They pay | Pick it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product-first | Paying | Up front | Most patients qualify and you want more sales |
| Intake-first | Filling in the intake | After the intake | You want the health questions answered before money moves |
| Assessment-first | Filling in the intake, then waiting for review | Only if the provider approves | Not everyone will qualify and refunds are painful |
Not sure? Use Product-first. It is the simplest and it sells the most. You can change it later.
You choose whether payment or intake comes first in Settings → Patient experience → Checkout sequence. To send one product to one patient, staff use the Send to Patient button on the product row.
Good to know
- Hidden products can still be bought. If you turn off Show on storefront, the product does not appear when patients browse. But you can still sell it with a direct link.
- Make a supply size or a bundle. To sell a "3-Month Supply" or a set, use Duplicate on the product row. Rename the copy and give it its own price.
- Notes reach the doctors. Anything you type in Note for provider network goes to the provider who reviews the order.
Words to know
| Word | What it means |
|---|---|
| Provider network | The medical team that employs the doctors who review your patients. You partner with one; you do not hire the doctors yourself. |
| Formulary | Your medication menu — the medicines you are allowed to sell, with their prices. |
| Storefront | The page patients see when they browse and buy your products. |
| Live video visit | A live video appointment between the patient and a provider, at a set time. The app may label this a "sync visit." |
| Intake | The health questions and consent forms a patient fills in when they buy. |
| Visibility | Controls whether a product shows in browsing. A hidden product can still be bought by a direct link. |
