Connect Payments
Set up how patients pay you, how you pay GEN Health, and how you pay the pharmacy.
This page shows you how to set up the money tools so patients can pay you. You do this once, before you go live. You must be a Client Admin (the role that sets up your brand).
You connect three money paths. Each one lives on a different screen. This page walks you through all three.
Before you start
Have these ready:
An approved payment processor account (Stripe, Authorize.Net, NMI, SimPay, Square, or Whop)
The credentials (the secret keys) from that processor's dashboard
A card or bank account to pay GEN Health's platform fee
A card to pay the pharmacy (OnlyScripts), if you sell prescription products
Who does what: You set all of this up. Your provider network (the licensed doctors who review orders and prescribe) does not touch your patient-payment setup.
Time: About 30 minutes if you already have a payment processor account and your API keys are handy. If you still need to open a processor account, it has to be approved first, and that wait is set by the processor, not by GEN Health.
Important — You cannot take money until a payment processor is connected and approved. Already have an approved processor account? You only need to add your API keys here, which takes minutes. Need to open a new one? Start that application early. Approval time is set by the processor, and telehealth accounts usually get extra review.
The three money paths
You connect three separate things. Here is what each one does and where it lives.
| Money path | What it does | Where you set it |
|---|---|---|
| Patient payments | How patients pay you at checkout. Without this, you cannot take a sale. | Sidebar → Billing |
| Platform fee | How you pay GEN Health to use the platform. | Settings → Account and billing |
| Pharmacy payments | How you pay OnlyScripts, the pharmacy that ships the medicine. | Integrations → OnlyScripts |
Not sure where to start? Do the patient payments path first. The other two take a few minutes each.
Are you on an affiliate deal? Some brands sell products their provider network owns. If you have this deal, patients pay through your provider network, and you will not see the processor tiles below. Not sure which deal you have? — here's how to check: open the Billing page. If it says Payments are processed through your provider network, you are on an affiliate deal. You can skip the patient-payment steps.
Set up patient payments
Apply for a payment processor
A payment processor is the company that moves card payments into your bank. Pick one: Stripe, Authorize.Net, NMI, SimPay, Square, or Whop. Go to that company's website and apply. Telehealth gets extra checks, so this is the slowest step. Do it first.
Open the Billing page
In the left menu, click Billing. The Billing page opens. You see the Payment processor card.
Pick your processor
On the Payment processor card, click your processor's tile, like Stripe. A window opens and asks for your credentials.
Enter your credentials
Credentials are the secret keys from your processor's dashboard. Type them into the fields, then click Save. A message says Payment processor set to Stripe, then Payment processor verified and configured successfully.
Run a test purchase
Buy one product with a test patient account. Confirm the payment goes through. Do this every time you change your keys.
Heads up — Enter your keys only in the fields on the Billing page. Never put them in a message, a ticket, or a shared file. One wrong key means every patient purchase fails.
Heads up — Checkout links do not take real payments while your account is in demo mode. Turn demo mode off and connect a real processor before you share a real link. Not sure if you are in demo mode? — here's how to check: on the Payment processor card, if the None tile is selected (it says Test mode — no real charges), you are not taking real payments yet.
What each processor asks for
Each processor needs different keys. Copy them from your processor's dashboard. Here is what each one asks for.
| Processor | Keys you enter |
|---|---|
| Stripe | Publishable Key, Secret Key, Webhook Secret (optional) |
| Authorize.Net | API Login ID, Transaction Key, Signature Key, Public Client Key |
| NMI | Private API Security Key, Public API Key / Tokenization Key |
| SimPay | Private API Security Key, Public API Key / Tokenization Key |
| Square | Application ID, Access Token, Location ID |
| Whop | API Key, Company ID, Webhook Secret (optional) |
Two tiles are not real processors. None is test mode, with no real charges. Custom Payment Instructions shows your own payment steps instead of a card form.
What is LegitScript?
LegitScript is a certification that shows you sell telehealth safely. Some processors approve you faster when you have it. It costs money and takes time to get. Check LegitScript's website for current pricing and how long review takes.
Pay the platform fee
The platform fee is what GEN Health charges you to use the platform. You pay it with a separate card.
Open Account and billing
In the left menu, click Settings, then Account and billing. You see your plan and your account payment method.
Add your card
Add or update the card on file. Keep it current. If the card expires, you get payment-failed reminders.
Pay the pharmacy (OnlyScripts)
OnlyScripts is the pharmacy service that fills and ships your patients' medicine. Do this step only if you sell prescription products.
Open Integrations
In the left menu, click Integrations. Find the Pharmacies section.
Save your payment method
Click Save payment method with OnlyScripts and add a card. When it is done, the OnlyScripts account chip shows a check mark.
Heads up — Watch your dashboard for a Payment needed alert with a Pharmacy row. Clear it fast, or the affected orders will not ship.

Questions
Where do refunds happen?
On the order, not on the Billing page.
- The Billing page is only for your processor keys and your checkout activity.
- To send money back, open the patient's order and use Issue Refund.
- See Refunds & Voids for the full steps.
Do I need a developer to take payments?
No.
- Hosted checkout is a ready-made payment page GEN Health hosts for you.
- You do not need any code to take a card.
- Developers only need API Keys to build a custom website.
What are custom payment instructions for?
For when you collect payment your own way.
- Pick the Custom Payment Instructions tile.
- Patients see your instructions where a card form would be.
Where do I set my shipping price?
Under Settings → Payments.
- The field is called Default shipping price.
- It sits below the same Payment processor card.
Why can't my staff open the Billing page?
Billing is admin-only, by design.
- Client Staff have no Billing, Settings, or Reports pages.
- Staff follow up on a single payment from the order itself.
- See Track Orders.
